Description

There exists a space, a real physical space of unintended meditation, of quiet, located within the frenetic downtown district of Market East in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These rocks are simple unimportant rocks presumably transported to this site from a local limestone quarry. The stones are tended by no one save a fairly sizable community of pigeons who sleep like statues scattered loosely about within this rectangular swath of liminality. In an urban landscape where boundary lines are so clearly marked and chartered by capital itself, this seemingly invisible space of futility provides me with a deep breath, a pause, a moment of calm between my collected gaits to and fro the regional rail line. It is in essence a sort of zen rock garden within this urban wilderness.
